Faith in Action of the River Cities provides essential, non-medical services to seniors and older individuals with chronic disabilities who reside in Cabell, northern Wayne Counties, West Virginia and Lawrence County, Ohio.

 What We Do

Faith in Action of the River Cities provides essential, non-medical services to seniors and older individuals with chronic disabilities who reside in Cabell and Wayne Counties in West Virginia, as well as those in Lawrence County, Ohio.  All our services are provided by trained volunteers and are dependent upon the availability of a volunteer. If you need assistance, call our office at (304) 697-1274 or fill out the online Intake form. You will be sent a full application to sign, once received, you may request services. Due to the need to locate a volunteer, we request 7- 10 days’ notice.

Faith in Action of the River Cities services are provided free of charge. There are no income requirements or third-party insurance reimbursement. We can offer our services free of charge due to the generosity of individuals, businesses, congregations, community support, grants, and foundations.

Remaining independent and at home can be difficult without assistance. Have you ever had to cancel an appointment because you didn’t have a ride or been unable to grocery shop because you can no longer lift the grocery bags? We strive to help you maintain your independence and well-being by providing services which help you access the world around you.

Our Services

 

Escorted Transportation

Door to Door transportation is available for medical appointments, grocery shopping, and errands. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide these services to individuals who cannot get into or out of vehicles without assistance.

Friendly Visits and Telephone Reassurance Calls

A volunteer will visit you at home or by telephone to provide companionship and socialization

Brief Respite Services for Family Caregivers

When a volunteer is available, we can provide 1-2 hours respite to allow caregivers some personal time.

Shopping

Volunteers can take you to the grocery store or they will take your list and shop for you.

Paperwork

Volunteers can help you with monthly bill paying, balancing your checkbook, and banking.

Chores

Limited to non-construction activities, such as installing grab bars, replacing batteries, or changing lightbulbs. The care receiver is responsible for purchasing needed items.

The Faith in Action staff can help you locate and request community resources.

What We Cannot Do

We are unable to provide the following services:

  • Bathing
  • Dressing
  • Dispensing medications
  • Other personal care
  • Utility or rent payments
  • Construction
  • Transport wheelchair bound individuals
